     My History In DIRECT Marketing

I started my marketing career Direct Marketing, such as telemarketing of all kinds, from cold-calling, calling from select lists (contest lists, call-ins, home-show leads, submissions of all sorts including web and email lists and submissions, as well as follow-up calls, confirmations, etc.) in 1983.

I began working in direct marketing in '83, after injuring my back working as a paramedic.  I began by cold-calling for one of the United States' largest home improvement companies.  The office I worked out of was known as a 'profit-center' as not only did it cover the main metropolitan area, with a population of nearly three million, where it was located, but also had, in it's complex, 'satellite' offices-smaller areas-including offices to cover smaller cities and rural areas, in my case 3 different states.  The company I worked for had approximately 40 or so profit-centers nationwide, and they all had satellite offices.  I consistantly was within the top five, usually taking the Number One spot in our profit center, and in the top 10 nationwide, out of between 1500-200 marketers depending the year.  While with this company, I completed the two-phase management development course, as well as taking follow-up courses, and soon worked my way up through Junior Assistant Manager, Senior Assistant, and full Office Manager.  While with this company I won company trips including free Carribean cruises, weeks paid holidays in the Bahamas and Mexico, resorts around America including Scotsdale, Arizona, as well as the East Coast, including resorts in Virgina Beach, and Florida.  After different management positions  running various of the offices and divisions, including the company's newer siding, kitchen and home security divisions, with my seniority, experience and top results I was chosen along with a few others from around the country for a new position called Training Manager, in charge of all hiring from placing ads through a three-stage interview we had developed, training the new recruits in classes of ten to twenty at a time, retraining consistantly along with all the other employees, in one-on-one sessions as well as group training sessions, live training on the floor in the various divisions as they worked, taking over offices when managers for that division were not in; we also, on top of training and were also in charge of firing the employees that needed so for all the divisions; this in an office that grew from 15 people on the phone and one Office Manager when I'd started, to a room with seven to nine divisions and over sixty employees at a time, going from a phone built into the wall in front of each of the 15 people to a full auto-dialling system I helped install, back when the technology was brand new.

As well as working for that company, I ran offices for a water softening company, four other home improvement companies, and set up the marketing division for a new home security business that was starting from the ground up as a new franchise, in which I set up 2 full-time shifts and 3 part-time shifts of marketers, and had 3 assistant managers working under me.  At the same time, we were one of the first to install and use an automated dialling system as well as a computerized record and statistic keeping for all employees and business produced, using the first version of windows ever introduced.

In the early 90's I started working part-time with my brother who had gone into building and was working for a deck-building company at that time  and by the mid-90's we did well enough that I could work full-time, on my own out of my house.  Working at home, I not only kept my brother and his crews busy enough he could form his own company, but also subcontracted with four other home remodeling businesses.  Since then, I have been doing direct marketing of one form or another ever since, still using my cold-calling experience, customer and call-back follow-up and so forth to find the customers to keep full building companies and building crews working  If that is your need I will do the same for you.  I also use the new marketing available online and so forth, but even so, having been in direct marketing since 1983, keeping up with and working within all the new laws being set, I still have a telephone and files of customers, and, as well, am at this time writing two separate training manuals on direct marketing.  If this type of marketing and experience can help you meet your needs, contact me today and let me know what you need done when is the best time to contact you, and we will talk about it.  Thank you.
